I am interested in the laws and policies that govern how people live together in society. This interest spans from the local, provincial, national and international level.
I believe that governing and elections should be about open-minded discussions of ideas and values, instead of identity politics, celebrity, and who has the most money.
Here are the some of the reasons why I am writing this blog.
To develop and publish my political ideas
This blog is a space where I am publishing my ideas and proposals as they develop through study and discussions with others.
Publishing my ideas on this blog will help me to present them in an organized way, and to connect with others who are interested in discussing ideas.
It is my hope that through publishing my views and ideas, I will better understand them myself, and that I will engage with other people who are also interested in discussing the principles and policies of governing.
To engage in the democratic process without involvement in partisan politics
I want to contribute to the political conversation in Canada without running for office as a candidate of a political party. I don’t agree with the way partisan political campaigns are run and how our politicians behave, and I don’t feel I would be an effective candidate under the way politics is currently conducted in Canada.
I am not interested in putting aside my own principles and beliefs just to win elections or follow the policies and strategy of a leader or political party that I don’t agree with.
Instead of joining a political party, I am writing this blog to discuss what laws, policies and ideas I would support if I was an elected official in Canada. I hope that those who are interested and comfortable running for political office under the existing partisan-dominated system will pick up on some of my ideas and proposals.
