Some of my main interests are the laws and policies that govern how people live together in society. Having lived most of my life in British Columbia, Canada my main focus is on provincial and federal laws here. However my law degree had a specialization in international law and I have a Masters in International Affairs so I am also interested in international law and treaties.
I believe that governing and elections should be about open-minded discussions of ideas and values, instead of identity politics, celebrity, and who spends the most money to influence voters.
Here are the some of the reasons why I am writing this blog.
To develop and publish my political ideas
This blog is a space where I am publishing my ideas and proposals as they develop through study and discussions with others.
Publishing my ideas on this blog will help me to present them in an organized way, and to connect with others who are interested in discussing ideas.
It is my hope that through publishing my views and ideas, I will better understand them myself, and that I will engage with other people who are also interested in discussing the principles and policies of governing.
To engage in the democratic process
I want to contribute to the political conversation in Canada, but I don’t feel comfortable with the way partisan political campaigns are run and how our politicians behave. Given the way political campaigns are currently conducted in Canada I doubt I would be a successful candidate, or follower of a political party leader.
I am not interested in putting aside my own principles and beliefs just to win elections or follow the policies and strategy of a leader or political party that I don’t agree with.
So I am writing this blog to discuss what laws, policies and ideas I would support if I was an elected official in Canada. I hope that people find my ideas persuasive or at least worth considering for more discussion.
